The cutlery is coated in metal using the PVD method which uses vacuum deposition. It’s a method of decorative surface treatment that has been used for decades in the watch and jewellery industries and, being completely food-safe, it can also be used on cutlery.
· Production Technology: PVD = Physical Vapour Deposition. The coating is applied using vacuum deposition, which means that articles with hollow cavities cannot be coated (e.g. hollow-handled knives). The various colours are the result of different chemical compounds in the coating.
· Thickness of Coating: approx. 0.8 μm (Micrometres): Experience and tests have shown that a thickness of between 0.5-1.0 Micrometres guarantees the best adherence of the coating and is therefore ideal for daily use. To compare: 30g silver-plating = 12-15 μm (Micrometres). Despite its hardness, the coating does not prevent scratches or signs of wear.
o Owing to technical limitations, hollow-handled knives cannot be PVD coated (see Production Technology).
o Coated blades can leave marks on porcelain. Use porcelain cleanings products to remove marks.
o Coated blades cannot be re-sharpened.
o PVD cutlery is dishwasher-safe.
o DO NOT machine polish!
o When cleaning by hand, do not use any abrasive materials as they can scratch the surface.
o Fingerprints will be left on the surface after use. To remove these, simply use a polishing cloth or rinse with hot water and rub dry with a kitchen towel or cloth.
